Russian and Serbian officials on Friday, Jan. 25, 2008 signed a multibillion-dollar energy deal that would make Serbia a key hub for Russian energy supplies and strengthen Moscow's dominance of the European energy market. The agreements, worth an estimated US$2.2 billion (Euro 1.5 billion), would include building a branch of the prospective South Stream natural gas pipeline in Serbia. A separate protocol also envisages Russia's state gas monopoly, OAO Gazprom, acquiring a controlling stake in Serbia's state oil company NIS. (AP Photo/Srdjan Ilic, file)hg3
